Planning a Preschool Graduation Party

A graduation party for preschoolers can be a deeply enjoyable event, both for the children involved and their parents. Preschoolers will enjoy being in the spotlight as they celebrate their ascension into the wondrous world of school-age children. While they may not entirely understand exactly what the party is celebrating or why a party seems in order, they will delight in the games, food, and gifts of a well-organized gathering.

Fortunately, since preschool class sizes tend to be small, it is usually very easy to organize a preschool party for your child's class. Contact your child's teacher and let her know that you plan to have a private, out-of-school celebration of your preschoolers' graduation. She may be willing to put an announcement with your contact information in the class newsletter. Otherwise, try simply staying after class and catching parents to let them know your plans. Have a detailed invitation ready to give to each parent, but do not give invitations to children without first getting the go-ahead from their caregivers.
Select invitations and decor based on a centralized theme, and decorate the party site accordingly. The possibilities here are endless-- Spring, dinosaurs, superheroes, medieval fantasy, zoo animals, sea life, a circus, and so on. If you're a crafty type, you can create invitations and decorations yourself that fit the graduation party motif of your choice, but other parents might prefer to get their preschoolers' graduation party decorations at a local supply store. Balloons and themed party favors will delight your little guests, and are a "must have" for any preschool graduation party.
While these options are all very enjoyable decoration options, you can get the children of the preschool class involved by having them contribute to the party decor with their own arts and crafts. Other alternatives to traditional decorations include natural, recycled, and biodegradable materials. If you can find them in your area (or make them yourself) little graduation caps and medallions can "decorate" your new graduates, as well, making the party additionally exciting.
While there is no harm in having a small cake or a few cupcakes at the party, some parents might prefer that healthier snacks be offered in addition to these party classics. A fruit tray with yogurt dip will delight children and parents alike, and will stave off the sugar-crashes that can ruin a party by making children excessively moody. Carrot sticks, baked chips, whole-what crackers, and natural cheese are all good, healthy snacks that recent preschool graduates will adore.
Your child's graduation from preschool is one of the most exciting milestones that he will take in his early childhood. It is an important and joyful step toward his independence, as he begins to branch away from being a "baby" and instead enters the world of "real" school. A well-organized, well-decorated, and enjoyable graduation party is a great way to celebrate this exciting accomplishment.
